Pilots Landing

Ancient mule cart tracks cut through the edge of the site, at the rim of the meadow, descending from the main road down the clay cliffs to the water’s edge where there had been a ferry landing in the 1800s.

The house is set on the other side of the meadow, tucked up into the hilly edge, as if in an amphitheater. The house is laid out and angled to maximize the panoramic views across the meadow to Vineyard Sound, Cuttyhunk, the Elizabeth Islands, and the Cape beyond.

The lines of this house hint at a Japanese influence, rightly so, as the house is set in a lovely meadowed landscape, much like a tea pagoda in an oriental park setting.
