This 1880s-era full-Cape in the Bass River Historic District was allowed to deteriorate. Its structural frame was compromised, an ill-proportioned dormer was added along its entry front, and unfortunate 1970s-era ells were added to its rear.

We removed the ells and dormer, lifted the original house and excavated underneath to provide a full foundation faced with historic brick, removed chopped-up interior partitions and provided casework and moldings to restore the interior to its former glory, added chimneys made from historic brick, dormers for headroom and light, an entry door surround, and added new rear ells grounded to the landscape with a wraparound farmer’s porch.

We restored the facades using the best original details, including rake, eave, and cornice details. We replaced the existing three-over-one sash with a new Marvin three-over-one window, framing them by re-using the original casing detail that projects forward from the wall plane 1 3/4”. Our firm brought new light and life to this historic house with these efforts.
